Surf-ski champ ready to fight on once more
Manly Daily 16 October 2002
NORTHERN beaches barrister Peter Lavac is a glutton for punishment – but it's all for a good cause.
Twelve years after Peter made his world-record surf–ski paddle from Hong Kong to the Philippines he was back on the ski in memory of a friend who died of cancer.
Peter, a Manly Surf Club member who currently works in Hong Kong, vowed he would never ride a surf ski again after his gruelling 1000km world–record paddle.
But the death of his friend inspired him to gold and bronze medal wins at Daytona Beach, Florida in the World Life Saving Championships Rescue 2002.
Peter has since decided he will resume his training after a short rest and defend his title at World Championships in 2004.
